The final camera projected matte painting is shown in fig 1.
Fig 1: Final camera projected matte painting
The final piece incorporates a number of embellishments. Whilst not directly connected to the core objective of the project, it is nevertheless important to add touches that finish the shot cinematically and/or provide further exposition for the viewing audience.
I added a particle system for the falling leaves, which adds a secondary source of motion in addition to the camera movement. This is intended to provide a sense of there being atmospheric influences whilst reinforcing the Autumnal feel to the shot.
Additional keyframe animation was applied to reinforce this atmospheric influence, in particular simple movement to the tyre swing and the sunflower in the immediate foreground. Both are intended to suggest an atmospheric influence, in particular the effect of a breeze, which would of course need to be present for leaves to be displaced from the tree.
The final finishing work was the addition of a subtle colour grade and lighting effects. The colour grade simply accentuates the yellow tones in the brightest ranges in the shot to give further Autumnal emphasis. I also added a light behind the church tower to draw this structure out as a hero element and reinforce ethereal connection. This was further accentuated with subtle god rays that emit outwards from the centre of the light, casting onto the front and side facades of the church.
